The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) defines six stages of architectural work to structure the architectural process from initial concept to project completion. These stages provide a clear framework that ensures a project is systematically developed, coordinated, documented, and implemented in accordance with professional, statutory, and client requirements. Each stage builds on the previous one, allowing for informed decision-making, risk management, and quality control throughout the life of the project. Together, the six SACAP stages guide the architect’s responsibilities, deliverables, and level of involvement from the earliest feasibility considerations through to construction and close-out.
